Real-time computer protection

Real-time protection, on-access scanning, background guard, resident shield, auto protect, and other synonyms are terms used to describe Trend Micro's automatic protection against viruses, spyware, and other malware programs.

Real-time protection monitors your computer for suspicious activity from computer viruses, spyware, adware, and other malicious objects while data is coming into your computer (for example when inserting a CD, opening an email, or surfing the web) or when a file already on the computer is opened or executed. This ensures that all files on the computer are analysed every time you attempt to access a file. This can prevent infection by not yet activated malware that entered the computer unrecognised before the anti-virus received an update.
