Firewalls protect your network from intruders

A firewall checks and regulates the flow of data that is permitted between two networks. The most important task of a firewall is to protect your business against external threats, but it can also be used to limit inappropriate staff behaviour such as chatting with friends on Skype during working hours.

Firewalls can filter Internet access

Using web addresses and content filtering  you can manage your employee's Internet use and block offensive or non-work related websites e.g. porn, ebay and illegal movie downloads.  By restricting content, you can improve network performance, reduce legal liability and increase employee productivity.

  • Manage employee Internet use.  Set web-use policies for the company, groups or individuals.
  • Flexible filtering options.  Filter by category, time, day, bandwidth, keywords, file name, true file types and more.
  • Filter incoming and outgoing content.  Block inappropriate content from entering your network and prevent sensitive data from going out.

Location aware firewalls

Your employees that use mobile devices are most at risk of virus infection when they access the Internet from out of the office.  With Trend Micro security solutions you can protect your staff whilst they are mobile using flexible policy configurations that increase security settings when they are out of the office.

Wireless firewalls and passwords

Wireless networks are great for increasing productivity and flexible working, but they can also be a major security risk. Most wireless equipment is standardised for easy sale and installation, which means that it is pre-installed with the minimum security.

Often staff install a wireless device in a network using the default factory settings and thus open the door to cybercriminals who will know theese default settings. This type of risk makes you particularly vulnerable since criminals can exploit the risk from the car park, street or a nearby building. Currently in the UK it is estimated that 1 in 5 business have an unprotected wireless network.

Firewall protection in depth

Everyone understands that you must have perimeter firewalls at your at your Internet Gateways and Wireless Access Points, but few businesses know the benefits of having firewalls in depth.  Having a firewall on every server and computer prevents:

  • Intruders who crack the perimeter firewall from gaining access to the whole network.
  • Harmful software, accidentally introduced by staff on a single computer behind your perimeter firewall, from spreading across the entire network.
Firewall and encryption settings

Staying on top of security needs is a difficult task.  Many businesses who operate wireless networks do not realise that WEP encryption is no longer secure -  using new technology hackers are able to crack a WEP encrypted passwords in less than 60 seconds!
