Local Area Network (LAN)
A Local Area Network (LAN for short) typically describes a group of computers which are interlinked within a specific location such as a business or office building. Local Area Networks are typically controlled by enhanced computers called 'servers.'
Server
A Server is an enhanced computer that is specially configured to control or support a local area network. Servers perform a variety of tasks such as hosting a centralized email system (exchange) or file sharing area but can also determine security measures, administered updates and anti-virus policies and monitor networks for errors or failures.
UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply)
A UPS is a device composed of a battery and sensor designed to monitor eletrical supply. In the event of a power disruption, a UPS can provide emergency power for up to 30 minutes providing ample time for a computer or server to shut down properly without suffering equipment failure.
Trojan
A Trojan is a form of virus that disguises itself as another program or file such as a word document (reference to the Trojan horse) to bypass security. Once inside a network or system, the trojan emerges and can cause any manner of malicious attack such as data destruction, information stealing or activity spying.
